Well, I have no idea who is still reading this blog, but here we go. We are back!
After living overseas for a couple of years, enduring a pandemic, and making a short detour in Michigan, I have moved back to Washington, D.C. While moving back, I made a few trips to the mountain to check things out. After a brief survey, I can report that things are going pretty well.
Here are some of the changes that have occurred:
- I now have neighbors on the mountain. Two new homes have been built since I left, both relatively close to my land.
- The road that I worked on has been well-maintained by one of the neighbors. It has also been given a name by the state. Amazingly, Amazon now delivers to the mountain.
- Fiber optic internet has been run to the top of the mountain, but it is very expensive. Starlink is also available in the area, but it is also expensive.
- Still no cell phone service (with occasional glimpses of connectivity every few hours).
- It looks like many of the fruit trees have survived, but they may not be producing fruit. I will write more about this in a future post.
- Unfortunately, the Allegheny Mound Ants have also survived. More on that in a future post.
As you can imagine, there has been a lot of decay, and things need to be tended to due to neglect. There are also a few things that need to be upgraded. I am already working on some new strategies for the land, taking into account new technologies that have come out since I left. More posts on these topics to come.
